Practice – Friday

Stephen Watson was drafted in at the last minute to replace Piers Masarati, Stephen, whose back ground includes single seaters has been driving the Chamberlain Motorsport Dodge Viper for the majority of the 2000 season and has a test contract with F1 Arrows team.  Stephens first time in the Porsche GT3R was in the dry morning session but not much track time was had because of track incidents, but his overall impression of the was that for a car with the engine behind the  rear axle it was surprisingly well balanced.  The second practise session was in the afternoon and the weather man had been right in his predictions, the heavens opened and the track became waterlogged within a mater of minutes.  I was on track first but after two laps the session was stopped because a Marcos had destroyed itself into the wall opposite the pits, ten minutes later I was back on track and one lap later the reds where out again because of a car stuck dangerously in the gravel.  At this point and with only 20 minutes left in the session the team decided that it was best for Stephen to finish of the session and get some wet time in the car.  Stephens times where impressive throughout the day and his input in to the car development was spot on what we had agreed was the way forward with it.  It looked like it was going to be a good weekend...

Qualifying – Saturday

The set-up on the car had remained the same from the previous day and the test day earlier on in the week at Donington,  we qualified the car 5th in class, 1.5 seconds off pole.  Between the morning and afternoon session we altered the car dramatically with a spring and damper change as our thoughts where that the car was too softly sprung.  The second session was thwarted by a Marcos dropping oil at the beginning of the session and effectively making half the circuit a skid pan no one was going quicker than in the morning and most times where a second slower, but we matched our time from the morning so it looked like the changes had worked.

Race - Sunday

The race started well and we ran with the lead pack for the first 10 laps but then my line and my grip level through the infield complex started to go and after lap 14 I pitted for the driver change over.  Stephen drove a fantastic race for the rest of it and dragged the car up to 3rd in class, he commented at the end of the race that over the last few laps he was pushing so hard that he spent most of the lap looking through the side windows.
